Have you met a valiant leader?
Since then Duterte when he’s still one of the candidates for the presidency and now he is already the president, his face is every day on media like an advertisement because of the way he expresses himself; a brutal, inhumane way of talking but I like it how he straight things out.
I am wondering why Duterte wins the race for the presidency with a total vote of 15 million+ besides rumors and judgments. Because of that I browse the internet about him and I read a good article by an OFW Filipina, she wrote that Davao City is one of the peaceful cities worldwide because of the leadership of Mr. Rudy Duterte. She describes Duterte as a simple man wearing a polo shirt, slacks and leather shoes navigating the city around without noticing that it was him. He doesn't want just to stay in his office doing paper works, he stands fearless and walks manful to stave off crimes. And it is one of the trivia that only Davao City and the United States have the emergency hotline 911 worldwide during his reign as a mayor.
The article that I have read let me realize that our president is kinda “maangas ngunit pagmamahal niya sa bayan ay wagas”. He obeys the law and implements it with dignity and valiantly. I believe that that’s the personality that lets many people love and support him.
Now, let me ask you; do you need to be one of the leaders of our country? Or do you need to be great for you to be like Jose Rizal? Or do you need to be like Heracles for you to be called a valiant leader?
No, as Zig Ziglar said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” To be a great leader is not to have a huge position, to be a leader is to see your job as a chance to impact the world no matter what your job is. When I was in high school I always think of doing great things to impress my teachers, working hard to get a high score on quizzes and tests and a good output for my projects. Besides that, my teachers observed that I cannot be a leader because maybe they’ve seen that I am a lone worker, I look weak and not friendly for I just have few friends. But then, those expectations from them pushed me to be one of the good students’ leaders of the school. I know myself, I know I am a lone worker but it does not mean that I cannot lead, so what I did is I started to be a leader in group activities in a class passionately with good character and having a sense of affection for my members work. Until my classmates saw my efforts and nominate me as the president of the class. From just classroom president I became the president of Youth for Environment in School’s Organization (YES-O), became also the president of Young Missionaries Organization and president of the Senior’s-Boy’s Scouts of our school. See you do not need to be great to start, start with simple things and let those small things become bigger.
The memories from high school are still fresh in my mind, during our Youth Leadership Summit ( YLS ) training; Sir Harold from 50 infantry battalion asked “ who is your ideal leader?” then one of my classmates answered it is “me” her ideal leader, I was surprised filled with grateful emotion. Sir Harold then called me in front and let the others clapped for me. And then he asked to follow up question to my classmate “why he is your ideal leader?”, “he is kind, thoughtful, believes in his member's talents and he inspires us” she answered. I was really grateful because I inspired others through just simple things, I am not telling you these to boast, this is to show you that we can make simple things into a great one.
Sir Harold then continue his topic, “if you are going to ask me who my ideal leader is, it’s Him” he said pointing his finger skyward. It’s Jesus Christ, why? It is simply because of everything, we as a soldier of our nation every day our life is in danger so even how tough we are we seek Gods’ presence because through Him we know we are already safe.”
It’s true if we put Christ as the center of our lives we know we are already safe. During pre-mortal life, there are two sons of God who volunteered to be our leader and at the same time to be a savior and redeemer. The first who volunteered was Lucifer he said to Heavenly Father that “ here I am, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it, wherefore give me thine honor.” Then the second one was Jesus Christ, He said that “thy will be done, and the glory is thine forever.” (Moses 4:1-2) Jesus Christ was chosen to be our savior and leader from the beginning because of thy good work, because of His very humble and magnetic personality and because of His great love for us as His brothers and sisters. Unlike Lucifer he wanted to remove the agency or freedom to choose that heavenly father gave us, he wants us to follow him even we don’t and he wants that all glory will be for him that is why he was not chosen to be the savior and leader.
Now, what made Jesus Christ be the perfect leader for heaven and earth that we can imitate?
First, “A good leader has also a leader to follow”, Jesus Christ obeys Heavenly Fathers’ wills and commandments He never relies on His own, its God the father whom the leader He follows always that is why he was never tempted by the devil.
There are a lot of leaders in the world with the organization they keep on working hard to attain such a goal for the community or for their people, many of them fail. Why? Because they are confident in their own intelligence, they are relying on their own without thinking that they just know a few and they need someone who knows everything that will help them but they do not know how to seek and others don’t even want to seek. If you want to be a good leader, be humble because humility is one mark of great leadership and learn to seek the others who know better than you. At the mount of Galilee Jesus Christ sermon the people “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8) Don’t be too boastful about what you can do, show to God that you need Him, you’ll see He will fill what’s lacks on you.
Second; “As a leader, our hearts should be as wide as the galaxy everyone under the sun has its space.” Through love the plan of the heavenly father was made perfect, through the love of Jesus Christ; He took upon Himself the weight of the sins of all mankind, bearing its massive load that caused Him to bleed from every pore. (Luke 22; 44) And He was nailed on the cross for the atonement to be done perfectly as an offer for our sins. (Matthew 15) Love for your people is an unconditional gift that you can offer, like the love of Jesus Christ, never let any problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved, love them unconditionally. Love made us so I believe that love will unite us. A leader should be a model of love promoting “loving one another” through charity because charity is the love of Jesus Christ if you have charity in yours you’re Christ-like.
Lastly; “A leader stands firm in the faith and sets a good example.” Jesus Christ was been a mortal here on earth who stands firm for the faith He had, you may think that He is God that is why he was able to do the atonement for us but no He was mortal when He lived here on earth at any time He can be tempted by Lucifer but then through strong faith that His Heavenly Father will help Him, He was able to atone for us. Jesus Christ became a good example to everyone, performed miracles because of strong faith and taught the people truly with interest that He can change the people by not forcing but through using their agency.
All of us can talk good things but only a few of us can do it, a leader must be aware of doing things not just to talk good things to inspire. Let your works are your words and your words are your works, be a man of a good example!
Thinking now to be one of the politicians, to be one of the leaders? Then start creating who you are now! Building a personality like Jesus Christ, start with simple things and work hard to make that simple one to a great one! Like what I said you do not need to be great to start just think, talk and act like the savior’s do am sure you’ll be a great leader someday I believe to that… And I believe that I will be a good leader someday through the power of Jesus Christ.
