The first Grader: Reflection




Based on a true story


This story is about an 80 years old man named Marugue. He heard news about education for all and because of his desire to learn he decided to enroll in an elementary school in their town.  At his first account of the school, the teachers refuse to accept him because he is very old for grade one. The next day, he went again to the school with a complete uniform. The other teacher don't want to let him in but when teacher Jane saw him again, she was amazed for this old man saying “you cannot easily give up are you? " he answered " yes ' cause I know what I am fighting for " Marugue let teacher Jane see the newspaper.  This woman knows the right thing to do so she let the old man enter the school even her fellow teachers have strongly disagreed.

First time at his class, Morugue doesn't even know how to write his name as well as numbers. But because of patience and a strong desire he learned to do it and of course with the help of teacher Jane.
Marugue is sometimes out of control of himself if he heard someone shouting or fighting because of the memories still playing on his mind about his young age. His family was killed by the British during the British-Black American civil war. He was one of the victims of hazing; the proof is you can see the marks on his body. Because of that, the teacher thought that he can be a threat to the children's lives. So the teachers as well as the parents decided to let him out of the school and suggested to him to go to an adult school. Teacher Jane was so sad about what was happened because she knows his story.

Marugue tried to go to adult school, He does not have enough money to spend for so he decided to return to the school that he came from. The other teachers don't want but teacher Jane fights for him.
One time a photographer went near the school, he saw Marugue playing with the children wearing school uniform completely. So he got some shots for it, the photos were published, it's just a couple of hours he became famous. The reporters of different media went to their school to interview Marugue. There are a lot of features about him that are published. He has many lovers, there are many people who were inspired by him one is teacher Jane but of course he has also bashers. The Department of Education decided to let Marugue out again to the school because of their insights that it can be a bad image for the school. Teacher Jane keeps fighting for him until she lost his job as a teacher. Marugue was so sad about teacher Jane so he decided to go to the DOE office himself with a goat (because he doesn't have money to spend) to talk to the staff to bring back teacher Jane.
The conversation between them and the staff went well. Marugue explained why sometimes he is out of control of himself, he takes off his clothes and there it so happened that the room filled with a sad emotion.

And there it so happened that at the end of the story teacher Jane goes back to school to teach the children as well as Marugue...


Reflection

The First Grader is one of my favorite movie it's because it was enlightened me about seeking and letting the importance of education come in my life.

In the past, there are accounts in my life that lead me to stop my study in almost two years. Because of people who became my angels my mind was being opened to go back to school until I encountered this movie and let me realize that “I am young, there are a lot of things that I can do in my life. I should not waste my time for time is gold."

The movie is really inspiring, interesting and an eye-opener for every one of us. Because it was based on a real story and it is true that this is a reality happening worldwide- being discriminated against because of your old age to enter the school. But the main character ( Marugue ) of the story was so strong to face those accuses and discrimination into his life. His persona really defines what is a real man should be. He is strong and soft-hearted, what she did for teacher Jane showing that he is also a father who loves his child.

In the part of teacher Jane, it is a good character of a teacher that we must imitate. It is hard to fight for things if you are alone. She was full of strong spirits so it happened that he did fighting for Marugue. It was the right thing that she must do. Her character awakes me in thinking that teaching is not a stressful profession. It made me realized that being a teacher is adventurous and it is a unique way to live life. Being a teacher is a pride- they are the builder of the future.
The story was awesome!

It tells us the importance of time- that every second in our lives, we can make a difference!

Sometimes we wonder if God really exists, we always question His existence in times of our trials that we always say, ‘if there is God why I am suffering all of this agony in my life’. Brothers and sisters, I testify that there is God. Look around you, you can see many beautiful things, in the land, in the water, and in the sky. What a beautiful creation, right? And everything of these is perfectly designed by God. Think about the galaxy, the constellation of stars, and how perfectly our planet earth designed. All we have is theory on how these planets were created, and no one can prove that the universe's existence has naturally occurred. See the Good

               I believe in prophets and leaders and revelations they received, but sometimes I doubted them not only the leaders of higher ranking but also local leaders of the church. This doubt has led me not to trust some leaders of the church and at some point, it had affected me in doing my responsibilities as a member such as paying my tithes, fulfilling my callings, and my personal progress. It’s disappointing when you see leaders who are misled by their personal desire.
